Understanding Metabolic Health
Less than 10% of American adults are considered metabolically healthy.
During my years in endocrinology and obesity medicine, I saw firsthand that we often wait far too long to intervene. By the time metabolic conditions are diagnosed, the underlying issues have usually been developing for years.
The truth is that early signs of declining metabolic health often appear long before symptoms.
Risks for insulin resistance, prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, and other metabolic conditions increase with age—and often rise significantly for women during the menopause transition. I also work closely with women who have PCOS, a condition strongly linked to insulin resistance, and often impacting overall health.
The good news? Metabolic health is highly modifiable at any age.
It is never too late to make meaningful changes. With the right strategies, we can identify early trends, intervene sooner, and work to improve—and in many cases, even reverse—metabolic dysfunction.
